What is SEO?

The simple definition of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the practice of increasing both the quantity and quality of traffic to your website via the medium of search engines.

SEO is an opportunity to improve your brand’s exposure via non-paid (sometimes known as “organic”) search engine results.

Why your website needs SEO

Whilst SEO focuses more on improving non-paid or “organic” rankings, there is plenty that can be done to improve your general visibility. However, this does not just happen and work is required to make this happen.

For example, you’re able to use content marketing in order to earn relevant links from external websites. This will display to Google and other search engines that you’re relevant and respected in your field.

The importance of SEO can be roughly split into four categories:

1. More clicks and conversions – Mostly, you’ll generate more, relevant traffic from a highly positioned organic listing than from an equivalent paid advertisement. Research has determined that between 70% and 80% of users will focus primarily on organic results and pay less attention to or completely ignore paid listings. Additionally, 28% of these searches convert, which means a purchase has been made.

2. Provide an understanding for Google and search engines about your content – Optimising your website’s content through SEO methods will allow major search engines to identify and appreciate your content. Search engines are smarter than they have been historically, but they still need help.

3. An improved user experience – Strong and smart SEO will help to create a better experience for the people using your website. Search engines can identify poor user experiences and this can harm the classification of your website. Whilst you’re running through your website with a fine toothed-comb for SEO concerns, you should use this opportunity to identify and fix issues that might hamper user experience.

4. Sustainable SEO – Organic searches are one of the few online marketing channels that are beneficial over time providing that you set it up and maintain it correctly from the very beginning. If you produce solid content worthy of a high rank for the correct keywords, your website traffic will snowball over time, but online advertising needs continual funding to ensure traffic continues to be diverted to your website.

By taking the time to optimise your website, you can deliver clear information and signals to search engines so that your content can be correctly and appropriately displayed and indexed within the relevant search results.

The process of SEO

There is an established process in order to ensure that your SEO set up is correct from the off. When you contact MaxWeb, we will hold a kickoff meeting in which we’ll gather essential information about your business so your website can be optimised to attract the right traffic.

It’s important to attract the right kind of users – people who engage with your brand, your products and ultimately go on to make a purchase. The more we understand your business, the more accurately your website can be optimised.

We will then perform a content audit, which allows an assessment of which pages on your website are the most important and are key in directing traffic to your website. Via this, we’re able to identify priority pages and highlight which pages are also detrimental to your SEO and take actions to minimise their effect.

SEO is not effective if implemented as an afterthought and this is why MaxWeb promote thinking about SEO at every stage. We will ensure that web design and SEO go hand in hand at every stage. We will also conduct research into how your competitors use SEO and ensure that your website is enhanced by our findings.

When we’ve assessed your target keywords and identified which ones will work best for your business, we will optimise your content and propose SEO-friendly metatags, which helps search engines like Google to understand key pages.

If we have created a new website for you, we will put in place a robust redirect strategy, which will ensure your old content matches your new content. This is to help ensure your old site’s authority carries over to your new one without delays and so that search engines can identify your new content’s new home.

After a website’s launch, we will also offer post launch care in order to ensure your website continues to deliver optimal performance.
